The inner and outer squares stay one color, and the square in between will cycle through different colors. This is accomplished with some JavaScript originally written by Charlie Loyd.
As in Joseph Albers’ book, the Interaction of Color, you can see how the qualities of the yellow and blue change according to the influence of the color they are next to.
Yale University recently published a wonderful app that brings together more experiments from this book. ♦
